The Shelby House

Another great girls's weekend in Round Top, Texas!  Oh my, where to begin!  Susanne, our resident social organizer, made reservations at The Shelby.    Located just a few miles from Round Top on Voelkel Road, The Shelby consists of various structures built in the 1800's.  It was the actual town of Shelby which consisted of an inn, store shop, school house, a chapel and three farmhouses.

We stayed in Henry's House and The School House...very charming!

After a lovely evening of wining and dining at Royer's Cafe and an outstanding rendition of chopsticks on the piano at The Stone Cellar,  we headed back to The Shelby for a night of gaming.  However, we realized that we all forgot to bring any games.  I guess that's what happens when you travel without your kids.  When traveling with kids it's entertainment that's a priority.  For us it's:  red wine, red wine, white wine, beer and cocktail nuts (but don't eat the crocodile nut mix...I'm just warning you.  It's not a good experience the next morning!)

We attempted to talk with Grandma Blanche but our channeling is a bit rusty.  I think Danette scared poor Blanche.  Since I'm the official "medium", next time I will have to pay attention to every detail...down to the shampoo I use:

Nothing gets past Aimee!  How old is that shampoo and do they still make Pert?  I also need to mention that our channeling would not have been complete without our official prop master, Kim.  Thanks for keeping us supplied.

P.S.  See, we still respected you in the morning.

Cute gate displayed on the wall.  We all think our grandparents had those kind of fences and gates.  Lovely!

Do not try to ride the bicycle late at night.  Just saying....

Ahhhhh, the chapel.  What a wonderful venue for a country wedding!  It's complete with a dance hall above the old mercantile building.  Boot scootin' in a wedding dress and sippin' vodka lemonade from a jelly jar.  Just be sure to invite us cause we're lots of fun.  Just ask Robin, the proprietor of The Shelby.

Robin, Joulyn and Mamie took exceptional care of us.  We joined them for breakfast over in the main house and had a delicious meal peppered with lively conversation.  After breakfast we took a tour of the property and all the structures.  Can't wait to return!

Mamie cleaning up after breakfast.  That woman has more energy than my 13 year old.

The dance hall (and friends)

The Shelby ladies.  I need to mention that we all received from our good friend, Susanne, a copy of Good Things at The Shelby cookbook.  A yummy collection of their guests' favorite recipes.

We headed out to The Big Red Bard for an afternoon of shopping but sad to say that I was waaaaaay too busy to take any pictures of all the good stuff.  I promise to do better next time.  Actually I'll head over to Susanne's house, take a few pics and post those.  Same difference!

Until next time...

Marburger Spring 2011

Yesterday Maggie, Susanne and I made a mad dash to Marburger.   Out of breathe and back in time for carpool.  I didn't get to take very many pics as I'm still in "blogger training".  Check out a few finds........................

We spotted this lantern.

Susanne spotted these...

I think we found this great chinois style lantern in Angie Tyner's booth. (Yikes !  I need to take better notes because I cannot remember anymore)

Maggie loved these contemporary mercury glass containers.  She probably dreamed about them last night!

Loved, loved, loved Melanie Mills Designs booth.  What a great eye.  I particularly liked the spiderweb-like screen backdrop.  Close examination revealed it to be paper.  I might try to duplicate it.  I need to get my sister the paper making master to assist.

A close-up of an architectural piece in the same booth.

 Beautiful vintage brooch.

Melanie sets a beautiful table.  Her paper flower napkin rings were stunning.  Not for my household of boys!

Great lanterns

Next time I have a need for a sconce...this is it!

Just because it was there...

I need a few of these.  Aren't they great?

There were a lot of rosary beads but not the specific type I was looking for.

This was just pretty.

Maggie found this cool lazy susan...oh, hi, Maggie!

Love this industrial shelf....Karen, can you use this?

In the same booth, these awesome stools.  Think they were probably from the science lab.

If I only had wall space in my kitchen.

He looked like I felt...ready for a nap!

One of a pair, the finish of this chest was outstanding.

Susanne picked up some great architectural pieces and ironstone bowls.  I didn't get a picture, however.  Next time I promise to keep my camera around my neck, stay longer and take more pics.

Happy Hunting,

Debbie

Urban Market Preview

A group of us headed out to the Urban Market last night for the preview held from 4-6 at its new location on Smith Street.  For a fee of $25 dollars we got into the venue with two drink tickets and a free sampling of delicious hors d'oeuvres.  We had planned to make an evening of it but "mom duties" prevailed.  Not to worry, we found some wonderful things and have a few questions about a few of the items purchased.  Give us your feedback.

The French Vanilla had these fabulous hand made bottles.

And this cake plate and cover from Portugal caught my eye and I just had to have it.
Do you like my impulse buy?

Susanne had her eye on this French garden vase but after circling back to take
another look someone had snapped it up.  You have to be fast girls!

My new BFF, Michelle, purchased these hanging ornamental bird cages.
She may use them in her daughter's room.  Like, like!

This was the purchase of the day!  Fabulous niche will go somewhere in Susanne's new
Memorial home.  Right now I think her new kitten, Chuy, is using it.  Wow, when I
die I want to come back as Chuy!

Great stools and table from High Fashion!

Industrial mixing bowls.....

Cool pillows....

Love this wheel barrel bucket...

Sampling of the some of the amazing jewelry...

This would be a great addition to my dressing room...or my workout room!

This settee was a deal at $1300...it was snatched up!

We all loved these stone carved serving pieces.  Susanne purchased a few.
Does anyone have some creative ideas for their use?

That Susanne!  She has a quick eye and an even quicker check book!  Look what she found.
The top one will go in her mud room/laundry room where she will use it for the mail.  Not
sure what she will use the other for but there are a myriad of possibilities.

Would love to go back today as 2 hours was not enough time.  But again, mom duties prevail as baseball season is gearing up.  See ya at Post Oak ladies!
